With all the talk about BO3 maps returning in bo6 bot lobby , one big question hasn’t been asked enough: Would they work in Ranked Play?
Ranked in BO6 will likely focus on competitive integrity—clean sightlines, balanced spawns, and minimal gimmicks. Some BO3 maps might not cut it. Take Evac , for example. While atmospheric and great for casual play, the high-ground bias and flank-heavy lanes could break competitive balance.
However, maps like Fringe and Stronghold might actually thrive. They already had solid control points, lanes ideal for Search & Destroy, and reliable mid-lane engagements. With tweaks, they could be excellent for Ranked rotations.
What would need to change?
Wall-run areas converted to ladders or narrow hallways
Better spawn control logic
Adjusted hardpoint zones to account for grounded combat
Let’s also remember that some players never liked BO3 because of the advanced movement. Reintroducing those maps in BO6—where movement is slower and more tactical—might allow people to finally enjoy them.
But the danger is this: if the maps aren’t adapted properly, they’ll frustrate players. No one wants to get stuck in a choke point because the original map design assumed you could wall-run out of danger.
I’d support testing one BO3 map in Ranked—maybe as a mid-season experiment. Let players vote, gather data, and decide if more should follow.
Competitive players, what’s your take? Which BO3 map would you be okay seeing in Ranked?
